The petite stool rests on four graceful cabriole legs with carved floral details and a softly serpentine apron, finished with a row of aged brass nailheads.

The hand-made needlepoint is especially lovely, with a warm terracotta background framing a central figural scene. A wonderfully detailed figure in Shakespearean or Elizabethan-style dress stands within a garden landscape, surrounded by stylized flowers, scrolling foliage and architectural elements. Softly faded shades of cream, dusty rose, burgundy, sage, and pale blue give the textile a beautifully time-worn palette.

Traditional upholstery construction remains visible beneath the stool, including an old fabric dust cover secured with individual upholstery tacks, and the cushion appears to retain horsehair-type stuffing. The beautifully mellowed wood, aged brass and time-softened colors of the needlepoint give the piece wonderful character.

At 17.5 inches high, this is substantial enough to use as a proper footstool while remaining a charming decorative accent beside a chair or tucked into a sitting room, bedroom or dressing area. See less
