Expertly crafted from salt-glazed stoneware—highly characteristic of regional potteries in the historic Grès du Berry or Digoin regions—this utilitarian vessel features a richly textured, ribbed chocolate-brown body. The deep glaze is elegantly contrasted by an applied cream-white relief collar detailing delicate floral swags.
A standout collector's feature is the original embossed white ceramic metric cartouche on the front, stamped with "40." to designate its legal serving capacity of 40 centiliters. Originally used to measure and serve wine, cider, or spirits in historic French cafes and taverns, this piece perfectly balances historical utility with timeless, European farmhouse aesthetic.
