Add a vibrant touch of traditional Chinese artistry and good fortune to your space with this charming vintage Shiwan pottery sculpture. This piece beautifully depicts a lively scene of a rooster and a hen perched on a gnarled, blossoming plum branch.
Exquisite Craftsmanship & Details:
Lifelike & Colorful: The hallmark of Shiwan pottery is its vivid glazing and lifelike modeling. The rooster features a brilliant red comb and wattle, a pristine white chest, and intricately detailed feathers in shades of brown, orange, and black. The hen is equally detailed with soft, speckled plumage and a bright red comb.
Symbolic Elements: In Chinese culture, this motif is highly auspicious. The rooster (Ji) sounds like "luck" or "auspiciousness" (Ji), symbolizing good fortune and punctuality. The plum blossoms (Mei Hua) represent resilience and beauty, as they bloom in the harsh winter. Together, they convey wishes for "Da Ji Da Li" (Great Luck and Prosperity) and "Xi Shi Lian Lian" (Continuous Happy Events).
Naturalistic Base: The birds are perched on a beautifully textured, earthy-brown base that mimics an old, twisted tree trunk or rockery. Delicate pink plum blossoms with green leaves are applied throughout the branches, providing a striking contrast to the earthy tones.
Impressive Scale: Standing at 12.5 inches tall and 13 inches wide, this is a substantial statement piece perfect for a console table, dining room sideboard, or as part of a curated Chinoiserie display.
