A richly layered American studio art glass vase by Joel O’Dorisio for Lost Angel Glass, the studio and gallery established by the artist in Corning, New York, in 1998.
Compact in scale yet remarkably expressive, the handblown vessel features a softly shouldered body and dramatically flared rim. Dense passages of honey amber, oxblood burgundy, ivory, cobalt blue, and deep green move through the glass in painterly ribbons, pulled feathering, and suspended fields of color. The interior of the flared mouth reveals an especially striking burgundy-and-cream composition, while the substantial clear casing creates shifting depth, refraction, and color as the vase is viewed from different angles.
O’Dorisio’s glass practice explores how thick transparent glass bends light and how overlapping colors filter, transmit, and transform their surroundings. This vase beautifully demonstrates that approach: its restrained form allows the complex internal colorwork to take visual precedence.
Hand-etched “Lost Angel” studio signature on the underside of the base. A faint adjoining date is present but remains difficult to decipher. The vase dates to approximately the turn of the 21st century, within Lost Angel Glass’s documented 1998–2006 studio-design period.
A distinctive signed example of American studio glass—equally compelling as a collectible work of glass art or as a jewel-like accent within a Postmodern, contemporary, modern heritage, traditional, or eclectic interior.
