This substantial sculptural vase has a beautifully rounded, organic silhouette with a slender flared neck and wide, gently rolled opening. The highly dimensional glaze is the star of the piece, with elongated vertical runs of dark pigment cascading over an olive-gold ground and warm amber and brown tones pooling across the shoulders and neck.

The glaze work continues beautifully into the interior of the vessel, where the layered brown and amber finish can be seen flowing down inside the neck. Portions of the surface display an intricate crackled/crazed texture beneath the glossy finish, adding even more depth and visual movement.

The underside bears an incised marking that may read “ITALY,” although the mark is difficult to decipher. The piece is being offered based on its form, glaze and vintage character rather than a confirmed maker attribution.

A wonderful example of vintage Italian decorative pottery with a particularly rich earthy palette and dramatic glaze. Beautiful displayed on its own as a sculptural object or styled with dried botanicals or branches.
