This exquisite pair of Peking-era scatter rugs exemplifies the refined aesthetic of early 20th-century Chinese weaving. Crafted from fine knotted wool, these pieces represent desirable antique rugs that bridge traditional motifs with the Art Deco sensibilities prevalent during the Republican period.

The design features a rich, saturated field of indigo, a classic and enduring shade that provides a dramatic backdrop for the stylized ornamentation. This deep blue color is expertly contrasted by the soft, golden-khaki border, which frames the composition and highlights the delicate vine and blossom work.

In keeping with the sophisticated Peking style, the field is largely open, drawing attention to the central stylized cluster of blossoms and the intricate border. The repeating pattern of delicate vines and stylized chrysanthemums demonstrates the mastery of floral rugs characteristic of the region's output.

Presented as a matched pair, these rectangular pieces are perfectly scaled as a small scatter size suitable for flanking a bed, placing in a hallway, or accenting a smaller sitting area. Their enduring quality and striking visual presence make them highly versatile decorative elements for a discerning collector. See less
