Antique reverse-painted glass and silver-foil advertising sign for Jacob Ruppert's Beer of New York. The oval sign features a glossy black background with ornate silver lettering reading “Jacob Ruppert's New York Beer.”
The lettering was reverse painted onto the glass with a layer of reflective silver foil beneath it, allowing the metallic surface to show through the stenciled design. The sign is housed within an oval wood-grain frame accented by an inner border of silver-tone beading.
Jacob Ruppert operated his brewing company in the South Bronx neighborhood known as The Hub. In addition to his work as a brewer and businessman, Ruppert served four consecutive terms as a United States representative and owned the New York Yankees from 1915 to 1939.
