Antique lithographed advertisement for American Family laundry soap produced by James S. Kirk & Company of Chicago. Titled “A Soap-Certificate,” the advertisement depicts a man seated at a writing desk composing an endorsement that reads, “I used your soap two years ago and have not used any other since.”
The detailed domestic scene includes framed portraits of loved ones, writing materials, an artist's palette, a pipe, and a spittoon. Bold red lettering across the lower portion promotes “American Family Soap,” while the company name and Chicago location appear below.
