It features a solid wood frame in a warm reddish-brown finish (likely teak or walnut), a horizontal top rail, and a backrest made of vertical wooden slats. The sculpted, curved arms flow into tapered legs, creating a clean, organic line typical of 1950s–1960s design. It has a single long seat cushion that is currently in good condition—the original brown velvet-like fabric is faded, lightly stained, and has minor discolor from age. Excellent condition except it's missing two springs. 81" long x 31" deep x 29" high. John Stuart Inc. was an American furniture company founded in the 1930s by John L. Stuart (with partner Herbert M. Rothschild). The company had manufacturing and distribution ties to Grand Rapids, Michigan—then known as “Furniture City”—and operated prominent showrooms in New York City (and later Philadelphia). They produced some furniture in Grand Rapids and also imported high-quality Danish modern pieces (from makers such as France & Son) that they sold under the John Stuart name. Pieces often carry a label reading “John Stuart Inc. Grand Rapids New York.” This particular slat-back design aligns with both their American mid-century production and the Scandinavian-style furniture they distributed. It was most likely made in the United States (Grand Rapids area) or imported from Denmark and retailed through John Stuart in the 1950s or 1960s. less
