This is a piece of history - Antique Rosskopf & Gerz German Master Stein. Dating to their brief production window between 1901 and 1913, this vessel represents the pinnacle of turn-of-the-century German craftsmanship. Their production was permanently ceased due to WWI.

The vibrant, hand painted slip-trailed cobalt blue bird perched on a branch with flourish loops underneath. Made of durable salt-glazed earthenware with a characteristic "orange peel" texture, accented with cobalt wash over the maker's stamp.

Original 19th-century jugs from this specific maker featuring bird designs—such as a bird on a branch or a stylized plumed bird—are highly collectible among Americana enthusiasts.

The unglazed ceramic ring base features natural gray shelf-dust coloration deeply embedded over a century of sitting on wood, alongside a crisp, pre-war block "GERMANY" tariff stamp.

The body and glaze are structurally robust and straight. The underside foot rim features a shallow, localized flake/chip on the outer edge (shown in the pics). This flaw is strictly cosmetic and entirely underneath the outer edge; it does not creep into the structural base or impact the stable, perfectly level display of this massive centerpiece.
