Constructed in the traditional coopered manner from individual vertical wood staves, the tapered vessel is secured by three dark metal bands and retains its fitted wooden lid and long wooden dasher.

The dasher terminates in a substantial cross-form wooden paddle designed to agitate the cream within the churn. The interior and fitted bottom display the utilitarian construction and age expected of an authentic working churn.

The wood has developed a particularly attractive warm brown patina, beautifully contrasted by the dark metal bands. Its tall tapered silhouette gives the piece considerable sculptural presence, making it equally appealing as an example of early domestic craftsmanship or as a decorative object in a primitive, farmhouse, rustic or Americana interior.

Dimensions: Churn body measures approximately 18" H. Overall height including the dasher is approximately 32.5" H. The tapered body measures approximately 10" diameter at the base, narrowing to approximately 7" diameter at the top.

Condition: Good antique condition with wear consistent with age and historic use, including surface scratches, marks, variations in the wood finish, minor wood movement and age-related separation. Metal bands remain in place. The fitted lid and wooden dasher are present and in great condition. Please review photographs closely as they form part of the condition description. See less
