Striking pair of vintage circa 1970s fully upholstered X-base ottomans in the iconic Billy Baldwin style. The pair retains what appears to be its original warm burnt-orange herringbone upholstery, giving the stools wonderful period character.
Each ottoman features a thick four-button tufted loose cushion over a separately upholstered seat deck, with a sculptural X-form base fully upholstered in matching fabric. Tailored welted detailing follows the edges of the cushion, seat and X-form frame.
The stools are substantially constructed with solid hardwood internal framing, upholstered webbing and metal foot glides. The quality and detailing are characteristic of higher-end American decorator furniture of the period.
No manufacturer’s label has been located; therefore, these are being offered as in the style of Billy Baldwin rather than attributed to Baldwin.
