It was a decorative accent piece in my grandmother’s home for decades. It is in EXCELLENT CONDITION.

Large-scale matte black ceramics with vibrant, stylized hand-painted fruit panels and gilded handles were highly popular mid-century exports. 13-inch architectural pitchers of this style are frequently tied to mid-century Italian pottery manufacturers (such as Ardalt or Lefton export lines) or European art pottery workshops that specialized in large, decorative mantle displays.

The white bare clay base confirms the pitcher is made of porcelain or fine white earthenware (ironstone). At 13 inches tall with a white clay base and matte black slip finish, it is characteristic of mid-century imports from continental Europe or high-quality export houses. Specifically, mid-century pottery companies like Ardalt (Italy), Lefton (often sourcing from European or premium Japanese porcelain factories), or hand-painted Hungarian and West German workshops frequently used a white porcelain base covered in a black matte glaze to create dramatic, contrasting canvases for hand-painted fruit panels and heavy gold gilt handles.

The smooth, chalky white unglazed bottom ring with fine, light crazing (the tiny network of crackles in the clear-glazed center) confirms this is a fine white earthenware or ironstone canvas.
