A graceful mid-century praying Madonna figurine by Goebel of West Germany, produced for the company’s Sacrart religious-art collection.
The elongated figure depicts the Virgin Mary with her head gently bowed and hands joined in prayer. Finished in a warm ivory-white glaze, the sculpture has a softly reflective surface and extensive age-related crackle that contributes appealing vintage character.
The base retains several identifying marks: Goebel’s blue bee-and-V West Germany factory mark, a Sacrart paper label and a Golden Crown E&R importer’s label. A faint impressed designation appears to read HM 58/I 27.
Its clean monochromatic palette and slender silhouette allow it to work equally well as a devotional object or as a sculptural accent within a traditional, European-inspired or quietly eclectic interior.
