An original charcoal portrait of a woman by Oklahoma artist and commercial illustrator Donna Foreman Hopper. Rich shading gives the sitter’s face a sculptural quality, while her swept hairstyle, high neckline, and composed expression make this an especially compelling portrait. Signed “Donna” beside the collar.
Sourced from Hopper’s estate in Norman, Oklahoma, this drawing offers a personal counterpart to her long career in commercial art. Hopper studied art at Oklahoma State University under Doel Reed and later attended the Kansas City Art Institute. She worked as an illustrator for Hallmark, a fashion advertising artist for TG&Y, and a commercial artist for John A. Brown and The Oklahoma Publishing Company.
The drawing is offered unframed. Its monochrome palette would look beautiful in a slim antique gilt or dark wood frame, hung above a desk or incorporated into a collected gallery wall.
