Large wooden shipping crate constructed specifically for transporting a Lyon & Healy harp, featuring a distinctive tapered coffin-form silhouette fitted with heavy leather-reinforced edges, iron corner brackets, riveted strapwork, and multiple side carrying handles. The exterior retains extensive original stenciling including "Lyon & Healy Inc.," "Harp," "Manufactured at Chicago, U.S.A.," and award references to international expositions and medal honors. Additional warning text reading "Breakable! Don't Drop" and "Handle With Care" remains visible across the opposing panel.

The interior retains shaped wooden support blocks intended to stabilize the harp body during shipment, along with an original fabric document pouch and printed instruction label reading "The Strings Have Been Lowered For Safety In Transit." The crate likely accompanied a professional or conservatory-grade instrument and reflects the elaborate shipping and protective measures used for high-value musical instruments during the early 20th century. Lyon & Healy, founded in Chicago in the 19th century, became one of the most important American harp manufacturers and remains internationally associated with concert and orchestral harps. See less
