Antique handmade scale model of a railroad stock car constructed primarily of wood with metal and wire components. Modeled after ventilated livestock cars used to transport cattle and other animals, the piece features detailed slatted sides, diagonal bracing, undercarriage, trucks and wheels, and a functional sliding center door. A mechanical roof-raising system adds an unusual working element to the model. Hand-painted markings include "Western Stock Express," "P.R.R." for Pennsylvania Railroad, and the fabricated car number "26462." The detailed handmade construction and functional components make the piece an appealing example of early railroad folk art and model making.
