A handsome vintage German knife and fork service by Anton Wingen Jr. of Solingen, Germany, dating to approximately the mid-20th century, circa 1950s–1960s. The set consists of eight table/steak knives and eight matching four-tine forks, each fitted with distinctive handles of natural horn/antler.
The knife blades are stainless steel and are beautifully decorated with etched and hand-colored wildlife and woodland imagery, including deer and other game animals amid foliage. The blades are marked “ANTON WINGEN JR. SOLINGEN-GERMANY ROSTFREI,” with Rostfrei indicating rust resistant stainless steel. The matching forks have polished stainless-steel heads with decorative wildlife detailing at the junction of the tines and handle.
The genuine antler handles display dramatic natural coloration, from warm ivory and cream to deep brown and black, and the characteristic irregular texture and growth patterns of natural antler. The handle is elaborately carved in relief with a stylized stag, with the pale figure revealed through the carving of the darker antler surface. The contrast between the naturally mottled antler and the finely carved animal motif is particularly distinctive. Polished metal fittings and threaded end caps complete the handles.
A highly decorative example of mid-century German hunting/lodge-style cutlery, equally suited to an elegant rustic table, hunting lodge, country house, or collection of traditional German cutlery.
Excellent vintage condition, with very minor age appropriate wear.

The stainless-steel components retain a very good polished appearance, with minor with very light handling wear and small areas of age-related patination consistent with previous use. The decorative etched and colored wildlife scenes on the knife blades remain well defined and attractive. The natural stag-antler handles are intact and particularly handsome, with considerable natural variation in coloration and grain. Minor surface irregularities and differences in color between individual handles are inherent characteristics of genuine antler rather than condition issues. The carved portions show very minor normal age-related wear The metal collars and threaded end caps show very minor age-related wear and patination. less
