A handsome set of eight vintage Scottish butter knives by J. Fraser Horncraft of Braemar, each featuring a naturally variegated stag antler handle with its individual coloration, texture, and organic character. The handles are fitted with attractive silver-tone metal collars and ferrules, creating a particularly appealing combination of rustic Highland material and refined traditional cutlery design.
Each knife has a substantial stainless-steel blade, marked “J. Fraser / Horncraft / Braemar / Stainless Steel.” The blades have a distinctive cross-hatched engraved decoration at the upper end, adding an elegant decorative detail to the otherwise restrained design.
The knives are particularly well suited to a country house, be it Scottish or English traditional, or a hunting inspired table, and would make an especially attractive addition to an eclectic antique or vintage table setting. Because every piece of stag antler is naturally unique, the handles vary subtly in color and pattern, giving the set the character associated with genuine Highland horncraft.
Very good vintage condition, consistent with age and use.

The natural stag antler handles retain their original character, with attractive variation in color, grain, and surface texture. There are very minor age-related surface irregularities and areas of natural wear to the antler, but no significant damage is apparent in the examples shown. The stainless-steel blades exhibit light surface scratching and fine utensil wear consistent with some minimal use. The decorative cross-hatched areas remain clearly defined. The metal collars/ferrules show minor surface wear and age-related oxidation/discoloration, consistent with their vintage age. The handle-to-blade junctions are intact, with no obvious major separation or structural damage. Overall, the knives present attractively and retain the desirable original stag-antler handles and maker’s markings. They have the honest surface wear expected of vintage tableware less
