c. 1950s; Rockwell Manufacturing Co. - Rockwell, IL
Scaled-down salesman sample of the Park-O-Meter parking meter produced by Rockwell Manufacturing Co. This aluminum-bodied display model replicates the form and mechanism of the full-size street meters used throughout midcentury America, complete with its three-hour limit dial and coin slot marked "Insert Coins Here." Cast into the base is the Rockwell emblem, a hallmark of the company's precision metalworking and municipal hardware production.
Salesman samples such as this were used by Rockwell representatives to demonstrate new models to city councils and public works departments, offering a portable means to illustrate function and durability. This example captures the streamlined industrial design language of the 1950s-sturdy, efficient, and built for civic infrastructure.
