Vintage Ligbi mask with raffia from the Djimini people of Ivory Coast. This striking piece combines human features with the powerful bill of the hornbill bird—the defining characteristic of these masks. The hornbill holds deep spiritual significance across the Djimini, Ligbi, Senufo, and neighboring cultures, revered as a mythical primeval animal, guardian of ancestral souls, and symbol of fertility.
Handcrafted with wood and natural raffia detailing, this authentic mask showcases the artistry and cultural heritage of West African masking traditions.
