A louis xv–louis xvi transition period commode, circa 1770–1775, veneered with geometric marquetry.
it opens with three large drawers in three rows, the compartmentalized fronts of which give the appearance of nine drawers.
the decoration features frieze and rectangular reserves highlighted by contrasting fillets. The sides repeat a geometric design framed by fillets.
the symmetrically composed front has a slight central projection. The front uprights extend into cabriole legs terminating in bronze sabots.
the bronze mounts include drawer pulls and keyhole escutcheons decorated with knots and ribbons.
the commode bears an old brand in the wood with a fleur-de-lis motif, currently unidentified.
the top is made of gray and beige breccia marble, molded around the edge. The underside of the marble bears the engraved initials "mh".
french work from the last third of the 18th century, transitional period between louis xv and louis xvi, dated to around 1770-1775.
good overall condition for an 18th-century piece, with wear and restorations consistent with age, without detracting from its appearance or authenticity.
