An exceptional and highly collectible pair of antique Model No. 14 bistro chairs, manufactured by the legendary Gebrüder Thonet Gebrüder Thonet company during the late 19th or early 20th century (circa 1890–1915). Widely recognized as the "chair of chairs" and an absolute milestone in the history of industrial design, this specific variant stands out due to its incredibly rare and highly decorative seating surfaces. Rather than the standard woven cane, both chairs feature their authentic solid wood seats intricately embossed with an Art Nouveau relief pattern. The deep, pressed design showcases elegant, stylized botanical arrangements that add immense texture, historical character, and tactile luxury to the minimalist bentwood forms. Crafted from European beech wood using Michael Thonet’s revolutionary steam-bending technique, each chair consists of a continuous curved backrest that loops seamlessly into the back legs, supported by an internal stabilizer ring. Finished in a rich, dark walnut stain with a soft vintage luster, this iconic pair is a museum-worthy addition to high-end dining rooms, historic residential libraries, or upscale mid-century café settings. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
