19th-century solid wood bench chest from the Cantal, Auvergne. Designed for rural interiors around the traditional fireplace, the piece combines seating with a built-in storage chest, historically used for provisions or firewood.
Its paneled backrest and two armrests frame the generous seat, while the broad wooden planks and simple joinery emphasize its vernacular character. The wood retains a warm brown patina with natural irregularities and signs of age and use.
