Excellent art nouveau ceramic piece in a rare version: two naked cherubs holding a bear standing upright between them, adorned with a large garland of flowers. On a flat, slightly domed round plinth. Grey earthenware, glazed white, with the floral decoration highlighted in black - rare version by michael powolny (1871 - 1954): is considered one of the most important ceramic artists and designers of austrian art nouveau. Powolny's companions and successors were significantly influenced by him, as he left behind an extremely important oeuvre for viennese ceramic art. Powolny's putti - many of which were commissioned by wiener keramik (wk) - are sought after by knowledgeable collectors of art nouveau due to the quality of their modelling as well as their endearing and unmistakable overall appearance.
