The finely detailed … Read more A beautiful antique French transferware plate by Utzschneider & Cie of Sarreguemines, featuring the desirable “Printemps” pattern. The finely detailed composition depicts a bird among lush foliage in rich teal-blue tones against a warm ivory ground.

The reverse bears the blue “Printemps U & Cie Sarreguemines” maker’s mark, along with additional period production marks. This mark is associated with the period from approximately 1871 to 1913, meaning the plate could date as early as 1871. Since the mark remained in use throughout that approximately 42-year period, the precise year of manufacture cannot be confirmed.

With its striking coloration, naturalistic bird imagery and considerable age, this plate would make an exceptional addition to a collected plate wall, French country interior or antique transferware collection. A removable plate hanger is attached and included for immediate display. See less
