This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving presents a striking aesthetic defined by its saturated color palette and elegant composition. Its generous room size format makes it an ideal centerpiece for a grand interior space, reflecting the luxurious scale of the period's design sensibilities.

The rug features a breathtaking deep blue field that provides a luxurious, velvety backdrop for the sparse, naturalistic design elements. The use of this vibrant hue, characteristic of the best Peking production, establishes a sense of tranquility and depth, perfectly complementing the soft, undyed ivory and pale gold accents used in the primary border and scattered motifs.

Characteristic of the transitional Peking style, the design employs a restrained scattering of delicate floral motifs and stylized branches, often appearing as individual sprays or small potted trees. These elements, including blossoms and small birds in flight, are rendered with a sophisticated simplicity, avoiding the dense ornamentation found in earlier Chinese works, allowing the rich color of the field to dominate.

Originating from the flourishing weaving centers of Peking during the 1920s, this piece reflects a style that bridged traditional Chinese symbolism with burgeoning Art Deco influences. The high-quality wool and expert knotting ensure its enduring beauty and value as a genuine example of fine antique rugs, offering a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of textile history. See less
