An original 1920 antique bronze bas-relief portrait plaque featuring the profile of the 26th U.S. President, Theodore Roosevelt. Sculpted by the renowned American artist James Earle Fraser (1876–1953), this piece was cast shortly after Roosevelt's passing.
The upper right corner is incised with the artist's signature "Fraser" and dated 1920. The bottom features the prominent embossed quote: "Aggressive fighting for the right is the noblest sport the world affords.”
Fraser, famous for creating the iconic "End of the Trail" sculpture and designing the Indian Head (Buffalo) nickel, based this masterfully textured portrait on his earlier 1906 life studies and busts of Roosevelt. The plaque displays a rich, authentic deep-brown aged patina across the relief work. A classic, highly collectible piece of early 20th-century political Americana and fine American sculptures.
