On the left is Shoulao, the Taoist god of immortality, shown here holding a staff with a double gourd flask for good health and a ripe peach for longevity. The robed figures are gathered beneath the shady canopy of a parasol tree, which branches overhead to form a decorative border at the shoulder and a repeated motif on the lid.
