An exceptional mid-century cushion mirror attributed to Italy, featuring individually fitted reverse-painted glass panels filled with vibrant red and pink geraniums and richly shaded green foliage. The hand-painted botanical panels are arranged in two distinct borders: a broad dimensional outer surround and a delicate inner floral garland framing the central mirror plate.
Slender gold-leaf giltwood moldings divide and outline each glass section, emphasizing the mirror’s architectural, paneled construction. The dimensional profile, reverse-painted decoration and luminous gilded finish reflect the romantic Italian decorative tradition embraced by Hollywood Regency interiors during the 1950s and 1960s.
The closely observed geraniums give the mirror an especially joyful garden character, while the warm, naturally aged gilding provides the patina expected of a genuine vintage piece. Beautifully suited to a powder room, bedroom, entryway or layered gallery wall, it complements traditional, grandmillennial, Palm Beach and collected maximalist interiors.
The mirror is unmarked and attributed to Italy based on its construction and closely related documented Italian examples. It dates approximately to 1955–1965 and is currently configured to hang horizontally.
