Executed in rich red lacquer with … Read more A striking set of three 19th-century Chinese export nesting tables, dating to approximately 1850–1890. Executed in rich red lacquer with hand-painted gilt decoration, the tables feature individual Chinoiserie scenes incorporating flowers, butterflies, bamboo, figures, architecture, and landscape elements.

Each table is supported by elegantly shaped pierced lyre-form sides joined by curved stretchers and terminating in wonderfully sculptural ball-and-paw feet. Gilt bamboo decoration accents the sides, complementing the detailed scenes across the tabletops.

Each tabletop features a different composition:

* Large table: floral sprays surrounded by butterflies and insects. Measures approximately 27” H × 19” W × 13” D.
* Medium table: architectural landscape with pagoda, bridge, figures, foliage, birds, and butterflies. Measures approximately 26.5” H × 17” W × 11.5” D.
* Small table: bamboo and butterflies in gilt decoration. Measures approximately 25.5” H × 15” W × 10” D.

The graduated tables nest neatly together when not in use and make a beautiful decorative statement displayed either as a group or individually throughout a room.

A beautiful and increasingly difficult-to-find example of 19th-century Chinese export furniture, particularly appealing for a Chinoiserie, English country, traditional, or collected interior.
