Beautiful dark atmospheric painting of four sunflowers.
The back of the board on which the flowers are painted reads, "F. W. Devoe & Co., … Cor. Fulton and William Sts., New York — "Academy Board." This label dates the board to the late 19th century. I dated the painting back to the 1920s as a conservative estimate. No way of knowing exactly when this was painted, but I firmly believe it is antique.
I also believe this is an original frame made with compo on gesso on wood. There are some small losses to the frame, but it is overall in fine antique shape. I have very carefully reinforced small parts of the compo with hide glue (a glue often used to restore antiques because of its reversible nature), and added new nails to the frame for added stability (the original nails had shaken loose and were unstable).
This is a delicate frame. Please be careful when unboxing it! While I will package the painting very carefully, there may be small losses during shipping. If this occurs, restoration can be easily made with "Old Brown Glue" (aforementioned hide glue).
There is a little bit of paint loss around the edges near the frame as well as one chip to a flower (all shown in the pictures!).
This painting and frame will be lovingly and carefully packaged: first with acid free paper, and then with bubble wrap and dense foam.
Frame: 22" H x 16" W (55.9 x 40.6 cm)
Painting (visible): 18" H x 12" W (45.7 x 30.5 cm)
