This trunk dates to 1924-1925 based upon its serial number, 357274.

This is the coveted upright wardrobe style model, with a closet-like interior, equipped with built in hangers and other compartments.

All hardware is properly marked with the Louis Vuitton initials "L.V."

The interior contains the original labels for both Louis Vuitton and the retailer, B. Altman & Co (New York).

The Louis Vuitton label reads "Louis Vuitton Paris 70 Champs Elysees, Nice. 12 Av De Verdun, Cannes. 10 Rue Des Belges, Vichy. 1 Rue Du Parc, London. 149 New Bond St, Modele Depose."

Previous owners of this trunk have used it as a coffee table (horizontally) or as a decorative pedestal (upright).

The trunk is sturdy and the interior is pristine, but this trunk is a survivor. It was noted to have survived a railroad accident sometime during the 1930s or 1940s.The railroad accident resulted in a fire that scorched the leather on 3 sides of the trunk.
As a testament to Louis Vuitton's superb quality, the wood frame is in tact and was protected by the scorched leather. In other words, it was really only the leather that got scorched. The trunk is still sturdy as a rock. One side of the trunk appears to be ok and only exhibits signs of normal wear and age. The interior is pristine and looks almost new.

The trunk had remained tucked away in the closet of a Los Angeles home until it was rediscovered in the 1990s. It was then acquire by a couple that specialized in interior design. They coated the exterior with a clear coat for added protection and used it as a coffee table for many years with the clean side of the trunk facing up.

We currently use it as a coffee table as well and visitors are more than obsessed when they see it. We love the trunk the way that it is. However, it could technically be restored if desired. Louis Vuitton does have a program with specialists that will restore both current and antique pieces manufactured by their company for a fee.
