An exceptional pair of elegant French antique, circa 1880, hand carved and gilded two light wall sconces with beautiful patina.
Born in France in the late 19th century, exquisitely crafted in classical Louis XVI style, originally designed for candle light, professionally electrified in the mid-20th century, featuring an ornate, richly sculpted acanthus leaf crest flanked by two finely detailed birds perched over exuberant scrolling foliate flourish Rocaille frame adorned with the three original distressed mirrored plates, issuing two stylized acanthus scroll arms with flower form bobeche, ending in faux candle light bulb.

Great shape overall, especially considering their age of over 140 years old. Working as they should. Beautiful, warm, nicely aged patina over the whole. Age appropriate wear, highly desirable rustic distressed, heavily patinated original finish, evidence of past repairs, all consistent with age and use, adding to the rich antique character, sophisticated charm and historical authenticity. Moderately restored and professionally electrified / converted from candle to modern electric light bulb in the mid-century. Delicate / fairly fragile by design. Overall excellent shape, ready for immediate use, and many years of generational enjoyment!
