This is an oil still life in the classic kitchen-table tradition. A large copper cauldron lies tipped on its side at the left, its interior glowing in pinks, oranges, and creamy highlights against a dark, murky green-gray background. On a pale stone ledge in front of it are two silvery fish: a large one with its mouth open and a smaller one stretched out in the foreground. To the right is a pile of produce: a purple-blushed turnip, an onion, a carrot, a garlic bulb with a loose clove, and leafy greens, possibly an artichoke or cardoon. A cluster of bright red items, likely tomatoes or lobster claws, adds the strongest color accent.
The paint is thick and confident, with visible impasto on the fish scales and copper, and loose, energetic brushwork that suggests late 19th- or early 20th-century French or European academic-impressionist style.
The frame is an ornate gilt gesso piece with molded oak leaves, florals, and diagonal banding.
