Here is a circa 1920s English silver-plated clamshell butter dish by E & J Leek. Beautifully sculptural, the hinged dish is formed as a deeply ridged shell with a scalloped edge and delicate beaded trim, resting on three small rounded feet.
The hinged lid opens to reveal its removable frosted glass liner, molded in a coordinating shell shape. A small notch along the rim was designed to accommodate a serving spreader. Marked E & J L / Made in England near the hinge.
A charming piece of early 20th-century English tableware that is as decorative as it is functional. Perfect for serving butter, caviar or other condiments, and lovely displayed on a bar, dining table or among a collection of vintage silver.
