We have taken to calling her "Gerber Girl" as it embodies all the whimsey and sweetness of those iconic babies featured in Gerber baby food marketing promotions.

With its generous proportions (24" x 30") it truly is a statement piece and a worthy addition to any portrait collection.

Ms. Hussey Freeman was born in the deep South (Corinth, Mississippi) in 1927 and made a career of commercial art and commissioned portraiture in an era when women did not easily take on those entrepreneurial business roles. We recently acquired a significant number of paintings from her estate so, while the piece is unsigned, we are certain of its provenance.

Paint on canvas secured to a hardwood stretchers with brass brads. With the styling of the subject and method of fabrication, we estimate the piece to be from the 1940s or early 1950s.

Dimensions: 24"W x 30"H.

Condition: Good vintage condition. Noted age issues are craquelure, a paint drip, and some loss of paint, as shown. We leave it to the buyer to re-touch or not; still wonderful for display. See less
