A beautifully sculptural set of six Norwegian “Bambi” dining chairs designed by Rastad & Relling Tegnekontor and produced by Gustav Bahus. Dating to the mid-20th century, the Bambi series is a particularly elegant expression of Norwegian modernism, balancing organic curves with a remarkably light and refined profile.
Each chair features a shaped teak backrest with a gently bowed upper edge that gives the design its distinctive character. Slender tapered legs, subtle stretchers, and carefully considered joinery keep the frames visually airy, while the upholstered seats provide a clean contrast against the warmth of the wood. Viewed as a complete set, the repeating curved backs create a particularly striking silhouette around a dining table.
The Bambi series emerged from the longstanding collaboration between the influential Norwegian design office Rastad & Relling and furniture manufacturer Gustav Bahus. Rather than relying on ornament, the chairs derive their presence from proportion, material, craftsmanship, and the sculptural treatment of the frame—qualities closely associated with Scandinavian modern furniture of the period.
The chairs are stamped “Made in Norway,” further identifying their Norwegian manufacture.
Offered as a complete set of six, these chairs work beautifully with Scandinavian Modern, Danish Modern, organic modern, and broader mid-century interiors. Their restrained scale also makes them especially versatile for both vintage and contemporary dining spaces.
