The table is constructed with a thick plank-style top and heavy square legs, giving the piece the architectural presence associated with Ernest Thompson’s New Mexico furniture. The apron and legs are accented with hand-painted blue and soft coral decorative motifs, including a repeating scalloped border beneath the tabletop.
The four chairs are especially attractive, with tall stepped backs inspired by Southwestern and Spanish Colonial architectural forms. Each back features carved crescent-moon detailing and four geometric cutout splats with diamond-shaped centers. Square-pegged joinery and visible wood grain reinforce the handcrafted character of the set.
The pale, weathered natural finish allows the grain, knots and variations in the wood to remain visible and gives the set a relaxed New Mexico character rather than a heavily finished appearance.
