The antique gold giltwood surface highlights oval marble top, slender cabriole legs joined by a cross stretcher, characteristic of France furniture making in the louis xvi tradition, of the louis xvi period. Its surface and joinery bear the honest, gradual wear of genuine age rather than a manufactured distress, evidence of a long working life already lived. There is a particular satisfaction in owning something with real history behind it, rather than something made to be replaced in a few short years. Furnishing with antiques is a gentle form of good stewardship, letting well-built pieces continue their working life rather than ending up in a landfill. It is well suited to a small entry table or beside an armchair. See less
