Its whitewashed oak finish sets off three drawers, brass ring pulls, gently shaped apron, a hallmark of of the french provincial period France craftsmanship in the french provincial tradition. The gentle wear across its surface was earned over real decades of use, not applied for effect, and it only adds to the piece's presence. Each mark and softened edge on a piece like this is part of its history rather than a flaw to be hidden. Furnishing with antiques is a gentle form of good stewardship, letting well-built pieces continue their working life rather than ending up in a landfill.
