A magnificent pair of 19th-century French candelabras, finely cast in bronze and richly embellished with gilt-bronze (ormolu) details. Each candelabrum is centered by an elegant classical female figure, modeled as a draped maiden supporting an elaborate five-light candle branch.

The sculptural figures stand upon highly ornamented architectural bases, with scrolling acanthus, shell, and foliate motifs throughout. The candle branches are particularly impressive, incorporating acanthus leaves, scrolling arms, floral elements, and six candle cups, creating a dramatic and richly layered silhouette.

The combination of dark patinated bronze with contrasting areas of gilding is characteristic of the sumptuous French decorative arts of the period. The elaborate Rococo-inspired ornament and classical female figures give the pair a distinctly Napoleon III / Second Empire aesthetic, while the quality and complexity of the casting suggest they were intended as substantial decorative objects for an important interior.

The candelabras are presented as a matched pair, making them particularly effective flanking a mantel, console, entrance, or dining room setting.
