While the core carcass, drawer linings and face veneers show the wonderful irregularities and hand-tooling of an early 1700s antique, the back panel has been replaced or restored at some point in its life to stabilize the piece to ensure its continued utility.

STYLE: The exterior is clad in highly figured, book-matched burr walnut veneers. It features distinctive herringbone crossbanding borders framing the drawer fronts, slant top and side panels. The piece rests on prominent turned bun feet, which are highly characteristic of early Queen Anne era English cabinetry.

FEATURES: The top section features a sloping, hinged fall-front. When dropped down, it reveals a fitted writing interior complete with miniature drawers, pigeonholes, an inset green felt writing surface, and a central cupboard door flanked by architectural pilaster columns. Directly below the fall-front are two narrow pull-out drawers adorned with small brass pulls to also support the desk lid when open. The lower chest carcass is arranged in a traditional configuration: two short drawers over two long drawers.
It is fitted with decorative, engraved brass batwing backplates with swing handles and matching ornate lock escutcheons. The locks themselves are iron lever locks.
