Perched on its oval, rocky base, it embodies all the vitality of 19th-century French animal sculpture.

The old patina, reddish-brown with golden highlights in areas of friction and enhanced with verdigris in the recesses, testifies to a long and rich history. The chasing is remarkable: each feather, the serrated comb, the wattles, and the scaly legs reveal a naturalistic care characteristic of the great animal bronze sculptors of the period.
