These vases boast exceptionally high-quality workmanship, characterized by an elegant baluster form and a fine cream crackle glaze.

The surfaces are richly worked with intricate hand-painted autumn botanicals, including maples and chrysanthemums, accompanied by graceful flying birds. The vibrant enamels are masterfully accentuated with thick, raised moriage gilding. They are marked on the base with the Shimazu crest, Maruni seal, and Dai Nippon script.

Standing at a very generous 24.8 cm, their large size provides a fantastic decorative scale. Finding a genuine pair of Maruni vases of this size and unblemished condition is remarkably rare.

Condition
Both vases are in magnificent collector's condition. UV examination confirms that both vases are structurally perfect, with no cracks, hairlines, chips, or restorations. There is only very minor, natural rubbing to the gilt borders on the rims, entirely consistent with careful handling over a century. See less
