The sides, top and display floor show … Read more A glazed bookcase and display cabinet by herbert gibbs, made from veneered board. The sides, top and display floor show a close ribbon- striped figure, and the lower sliding doors are faced in teak with a cathedral grain. The side panels run the full height to the floor and frame a recessed plinth.

the upper compartment has a pair of sliding glass doors with finger pulls ground into the glass. The doors run in moulded channels set into the display floor. Inside are two glass shelves on plastic support pegs, which can be moved up or down using the drilled holes in the side panels, and the back is mirrored. Below, a pair of sliding teak doors with shaped timber handles closes over a cupboard.

an aluminium maker's plate on the back, top right, reads "gibbs furniture" and is stamped "1076 908".

the veneers are intact, with no lifting, chips or losses visible to the carcass or doors. The glass doors, both shelves and the mirrored back are intact, with no chips visible along the edges. there is general light wear from age and use throughout. This piece has an attribution mark,
