The sculptural hand-worked iron frame features a richly aged florentine gilt finish with deliberately textured surfaces, incised details and elegant scroll-form feet. The unusually shaped elongated oval lampshade appears to be original to the lamp. It is covered with naturally textured, parchment-like leather and decorated with inset woven tapestry panels depicting roses and foliage in muted shades of red, green and beige. Fine metallic passementerie trim surrounds the floral panels and the upper and lower edges of the shade. Its substantial proportions, architectural ring finial and expressive gothic revival-inspired silhouette give the lamp a highly decorative and almost ceremonial presence. The rare combination of gilt iron, translucent leather and floral tapestry demonstrates particularly fine craftsmanship and makes this an impressive statement piece for a console, sideboard or large desk. The lamp is fitted with two e26/e27 screw sockets, allowing it to accommodate standard european e27 as well as compatible american e26 light bulbs. The wiring is in good working condition, while the switch was replaced during the 1980s. The leather shade shows discoloration, small marks and traces of age that contribute to its authentic character and warm atmospheric light.
