Made of terracotta coated with majolica glaze, it features an age-worn patina, slight surface chips and natural imperfections resulting from age and use. The central body is decorated with a naturalistic motif depicting a large tree rooted in a rural landscape, with subtle washes of colour outlining the ground and background landscape features. Originally intended for storing spirits, wine, oil or water, this type of painted pottery combined everyday functionality with a decorative element for the peasant or middle-class homes of the period.
