The plate has a distinctive scalloped rim divided into multiple decorative panels. These sections alternate between deep cobalt-blue geometric and wave patterns, warm red geometric motifs, floral medallions, and finely painted botanical decoration. Subtle gilt detailing adds an elegant finishing accent throughout the composition.

At the center, a large traditional sailing vessel is depicted among stylized waves and clouds, surrounded by soft yellow sails, red accents, turquoise details, and fine line work. The overall composition combines maritime imagery with classic Japanese decorative motifs in a highly ornamental and balanced design.

The reverse is decorated in underglaze blue and bears a painted mark or signature. The exact maker and date have not been conclusively identified, so the piece is described conservatively as a vintage Japanese decorative porcelain plate in the Imari tradition.

Its unusual shaped edge, detailed hand-painted decoration, and vivid color palette make it a striking display piece for a wall, cabinet, or collection of Japanese and Asian decorative ceramics.A vintage Japanese hand-painted porcelain plate in an Imari-inspired style, featuring a richly detailed central scene of a sailing ship at sea.
