A dignified Chinese square hardwood drawer box (shouhe) crafted from warm-toned huali rosewood, with visible dovetail joinery at the corners that speaks to traditional cabinetmaking.
The lid is decorated with a coiling five-claw dragon in cream-colored inlay (bone-style or shell) facing a flaming red pearl — the classic "dragon chasing the flaming pearl" motif symbolizing imperial authority, energy, and good fortune. Four green hardstone cabochons are set at the corners in brass wirework mounts, echoing the traditional ornamental style. A small rectangular cartouche with calligraphy sits in the upper right corner.
The box operates as a drawer— the lid/lower section slides or pulls out to reveal the lined interior, ideal for rings, cufflinks, watches, stamps, tea, or small treasures. The dovetail corners add a layer of craftsmanship that wood-lovers will appreciate.
